Revolution Trains uses crowd-funding to bring ‘N’ and ‘OO’ gauge models to the market and it commissioned its first model – Virgin Trains’ Class 390 ‘Pendolino’ in ‘N’ – from Rapido.

The Class 390 ‘Pendolino’ is one of the fastest domestic electric multiple units operating in Britain, with a design speed of 140mph; however, limitations to track signalling systems restrict the trains to a maximum speed of 125mph in service. In September 2006, ‘Pendolino’ set a new speed record, completing the 401 mile length of the West Coast Main Line from Glasgow Central to London Euston in 3 hours 55 minutes, beating the 4 hour 14-minute record for the southbound run previously set in 1981 by its ancestor, British Rail’s Advanced Passenger Train.

To operate at high speed the Pendolino features a tilting mechanism to allow the train to take corners smoothly at higher speeds. The first were built between 2001 and 2004 with a second batch between 2010 and 2012, being the total number of units to 57.
The ‘Pendolino’ has been produced with the full support of Virgin Trains. To ensure maximum fidelity, we have laser scanned the prototype along with amassed a huge amount of physical research materials.

Models are available in the full and accurate nine-car (Class 390/0) and 11-car (Class 390/1) sets, along with a shorter five-car formation (as No. 390001 Virgin Pioneer) comprising one each of the basic vehicle types (Coaches A, C, E, H and K) for those on a budget.
The nine-car and 11-car trains will be available in ten different number and livery configurations. The set of two trailer cars (Coaches F and U) creates a prototypically ‘strengthened’ 11-car train, or can be used by modellers wanting to model the delivery trains from the Alstom plant in Saviglianoto, Italy to Edge Hill, Liverpool, when the sets were upgraded from nine to 11-cars.
